Issue
Exterior door or wing chrome strip removed or is missing a clip.
Diagnosis
Trim missing, loose or incorrectly attached. In my case one end was loose and I kept catching it.
Repair
The section of trim needs to be removed, even to replace one clip.
The original round metal clips may remain usable, the replacements are plastic.
Note: either clip type works
Removing a trim:
- Carefully lever the trim from underneath
- I use a small flathead screwdriver wrapped in tape
- Take care not to damage paint
Replacing a trim:
- Insert new clips into holes
- If using metal clips, then a rivet puller will be needed inside the door to pull and snap the pin
- If using plastic clips, (much easier) just tap the plastic pin in
- Line up trim over top of clips
- Working from one end another clip trim over lower part of clip
Note: the above instructions are accurate, but the chrome strip and clips have a mind of their own, be ready for this being a complete swine of a job and having to replace a set of plastic clips at least once before you are done so buy more than needed. Great patience is required to get the trims on.
